General Information

Ensure that your seed spacing and use of fertilizer is correct

*Type of fertilizer will determine placing strategy

Planter Calibration

  • This should be done every year for correct seed spacing and application of fertilizer.

Plant Depth

  • The ideal plant depth is 5-8cm. Root and plant development is impaired when plans areplanted too shallow (less than 5cm under the surface). Plant depth has a great influenceon possible yield. Avoid planting at temperatures less than 10° C.
  • Certain types of soil, climate and other factors can require planting at depths of lessthan 5cm.

Calibrating Seed Spacing

  • Fill the seed tray with seeds. Pull the planter in a straight line over the hard surface for atleast 20m. Gather the seeds from the 20m and count them.
  • Suppose the planned crop requires seed spacing of 37cm in the rows. This means thatthe quantity of seeds in 20m is 20m x 100 = 2000cm ÷ 37=54 seeds.
  • Inverse: If 54 seeds were gathered over 20m, the average space is 20m x 100 = 2 000 ÷54 = 37 cm.
